Man, 18, dies after van hits tree

A man has died and two others are seriously ill in hospital after a van crashed into a tree in Birmingham.

The collision happened in Pype Hayes Park, on Chester Road, Erdington, at about 0500 GMT.

The 18-year-old driver suffered multiple injuries and died at the scene. Two male passengers in their late teens were taken to hospital.

Chester Road was closed between Eachelhurst Road and Orphanage Road while police inquiries continued.

Anyone who witnessed the crash has been asked to contact West Midlands Police.
