Building opens at fire-hit school

Part of a West Midlands school which was destroyed by fire two-and-a-half years ago is to be officially reopened.

Light Hall School in Shirley, Solihull, closed for one week after the huge fire destroyed 12 classrooms, a kitchen and canteen in February 2006.

Head teacher Vic Scutt said thanks to additional funding the rebuild was more extensive than the facilities lost.

The restoration includes a drama centre, a learning resource centre and new classrooms.

Mr Scutt said: "Students will be using the facilities from 4 November and I am sure you can appreciate how this will enhance their learning and boost the feel good factor for everyone at Light Hall."

Temporary classrooms and dining areas were set up after the fire.
