Objections over red route plans

Red route (generic)
Some traders said a red route could hit their businesses

Dozens of traders and residents in part of Birmingham have urged councillors not to introduce an all-out parking ban on a busy road.

The city council is considering plans to introduce double red lines, known as a red route, along the A435 in Moseley and Kings Heath.

But traders fear it will mean a drop in passing trade.

However, both residents and business owners said they agreed something needed to be done to improve safety.

A public meeting held on Wednesday night heard how people wanted to see the existing rules enforced in the area.

The introduction of red routes elsewhere in Birmingham has proved controversial.

In December 2006, traders and residents organised a go-slow on the A34 in Sparkhill saying that the red routes there had hit business.
