Man, 25, injured in city shooting

A 25-year-old man has been taken to hospital after he was shot in the back in Birmingham.

Police were called to Sunridge Avenue, in the Newtown area of the city, at about 2200 BST on Friday after receiving reports of shots being fired.

The injured man's condition was described as serious but not life threatening.

West Midlands Police said it was too early to say if it was linked to recent gang violence in the city.

Three people have been killed in the past month in the city in a series of "tit for tat" stabbings and shootings blamed on rival gangs.

A cordon has been put in place at the scene and witnesses or anyone with information has been asked to contact police.
