Administrators which have taken over a DIY flooring retailer have closed 41 of its 132 stores and are looking for a new buyer.
Birmingham-based Floors2Go, one of England's biggest wood and laminate floor sellers, called in Kroll on Monday evening.
Almost 100 of the firm's 450 staff have since lost their jobs. The fall in the housing market has been blamed.
The firm will continue to trade while a new buyer is sought.
Kroll spokesman Fraser Gray said all retailers were facing a "particularly hostile trading environment" and it was affecting the home improvements sector.
