Two lifeguards from the Black Country have been charged with failing to carry out their duties at work after a rugby player drowned in a swimming pool.

Adrian Miles, 48, was using the University of Wolverhampton's Walsall campus pool to help him recover from a spinal injury when he died in 2006.

Alex Cotterill, 27, and Richard Leek, 29, have been charged by the Health and Safety Executive.

Mr Cotterill of Willenhall and Mr Leek of Wednesfield have not entered a plea.

The case is due before Walsall Magistrates Court on 2 September.

Mr Miles suffered a spinal injury when he was tackled while playing for Walsall Rugby Club during a charity match 15 months before his death.
