The mother of a man stabbed to death during a street fight has appealed for help in finding his killer.

Patrick Mellard, 33, died in hospital after being stabbed in Orchards Way, Balsall Heath, Birmingham, on 28 May.

Leonie Mellard, 66, said her "shy and lovely" son, who was a twin, lived with her and rarely went out.

West Midlands Police said the man seen fighting with him was black and aged between 20 and 30. Five people have been bailed over Mr Mellard's death.

Three men, questioned on suspicion of his murder, and two woman, arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender, have been released on police bail as inquires continue.

'Private person'

Mr Mellard, who was one of seven children, had been for a job interview on the day he was stabbed, his mother said.

"I know somebody out there must know something," she said.

Mr Mellard's brother Cayvey, 41, backed her call for anyone with information to contact police.

He said: "Patrick was a private person. He kept himself to himself.

"He was no trouble. Everyone in his family misses him."

Det Insp Neil Corrigan, senior investigating officer, said: "We believe Patrick was talking to another male in this area when an argument or a fight broke out.

He added: "We have no reason to suspect why anyone would attack Patrick in this manner."

Officers will be in the Orchards Way area on Wednesday between 1700 BST and 1900 BST, one week on from the murder.
