Annual Gay Pride parade cancelled

Previous Gay Pride event
Birmingham Pride 2008 will be held on 24 and 25 May

The annual Gay Pride parade through Birmingham will not be held this year as organisers say significant grants are not available.

Instead of the parade the Lord Mayor will open the Pride 2008 festival with an event showcasing community groups.

Organisers said the parade's colour and atmosphere will be retained with street performers and dancers.

The event on 24 and 25 May is being organised by gay community groups and businesses and Birmingham City Council.
