Vandal attack cuts power supplies

Up to 30,000 homes in the West Midlands were without power for several hours after vandals attacked a sub-station for the third time in a week.

People living in Great Barr, West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Walsall were all affected, Central Networks said.

Vandals targeted the sub-station in Walsall twice over the weekend although did not cut supplies.

Central Networks said the offenders had put their lives at risk and had annoyed its customers.

"It's a terrible situation when these things occur," the spokesman said.

"These buildings are very secure and it takes time and effort to break in."
