Pubs urged to shut ahead of derby

Pub landlords were urged by police to shut early ahead of the Black Country football derby.

Officers made the plea in a bid to avoid violence between Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Bromwich Albion fans ahead of and after the match.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said it was "no secret" there was potential for disorder between the local rivals.

Officers had warned they would seek to close down any pub that insisted on opening despite potential violence.
