Human remains found in city canal

Human remains have been discovered in a canal in Wolverhampton.

The remains found near Cannock Road on Sunday evening are believed to be those of a man aged in his late teens to early 30s, police said.

Enquiries so far have established they could have been there for between two and eight months.

"We are carrying out DNA tests on the remains. We are able to confirm that the skeleton is not intact," Det Insp Mark Payne, from Wednesfield CID, said.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course, police said.

Det Insp Payne said: "We are working with the coroner and alongside the force's Major Investigation Unit in this investigation.

"We are clearly treating this very seriously and ask for the help from members of the public to come forward with any information they may have.

"We are currently reviewing our missing persons database as a matter of routine."

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID at Wednesfield police station or Crimestoppers.
