A man murdered in Birmingham had been hunted by his killers before being shot, police believe.

Nehemiah Bryce, 27, was trying to escape his pursuers when he was tracked down to an alley and killed in Rodway Close, Newtown, on Sunday.

His mother Diane Johnson has appealed for witnesses and people with information to contact detectives.

"To whoever killed my son - you murderers. You had no right, he was my son," she said.

"Please come forward if you know who is responsible," she added.

'Devastated our lives'

Mr Bryce's sister Lauren said: "We wish to emphasise that Nehemiah had no disrespect for individuals around him.

"Not only have these events devastated our lives but will undoubtedly have the same impact upon the offender and their family."

Police are working on the theory that Mr Bryce had been pursued by his killers in a pre-meditated attack.

His black Seat Ibiza car was damaged and detectives believe this happened during the chase.

Det Ch Insp Steve Bimson, of West Midlands Police, said: "There appears to be some persistence in trying to get to Nehemiah.

"There is damage to his vehicle and we need to establish exactly how that occurred and the circumstances of that."

Meanwhile, armed police officers remain on patrol in Newtown while house to house inquiries continue.

Ballistics experts are also examining evidence from a fingertip search of the area.
