Cadbury recalls bars in nut scare

Cadbury has apologised after recalling thousands of chocolate bars that lacked nut allergy warning labels.

The Birmingham firm said Dairy Milk Double Choc 250g promotional packs, bearing the phrase "win a prize and a half", were affected.

It is investigating a printing error at its Bristol factory that led to the "may contain traces of nuts" message being left off the label.

Nut allergy sufferers were advised not to eat the bars.

They are also being advised to contact Cadbury for a refund.

'No complaints'

The company said the chocolate was safe to eat for people who do not suffer nut allergies and that no other Dairy Milk products or "prize and a half" promotional packs were affected.

A spokesman said: "Cadbury wants all consumers to be able to enjoy our products and would therefore like to apologise to any consumers inconvenienced."

The firm has not received any customer complaints about the labelling problem, the spokesman added.

He said the fault, which was discovered on Thursday, affected only a small line but it was not known how much the error would cost the company.
