Road signs stolen for scrap value

Several types of sign have been taken
At least 20 road signs have been stolen in north Shropshire in the last two months, police say.

Officers believe that thieves have taken the aluminium signs to sell for their scrap value.

Directions, tourist information and advanced warning signs have been taken near Market Drayton and Hinstock.

The council has estimated that the cost of their replacement will run to more than £15,000. Anyone with information should contact police.

Pc Stephen Cummings said: "I am keen to hear from any scrap metal merchants who might be offered anything resembling a road sign to refuse and contact police immediately. It is an offence to buy stolen goods."
