Lobster hits school dinner menu
College chef Blodwen Hinton
College chef Blodwen Hinton even helped to catch the lobster
Lobster has become a hit on the dinner menu for children at a school in the Black Country.

The exotic choice for pupils at Oldbury College of Sport is thanks to the school's chef Blodwen Hinton.

She not only prepared the dish but she helped catch it, from the family's boat off Anglesey.

The dish is typical of what is on offer for pupils at the college, where meals cost £1.65, chips are banned and fresh fruit salad is in.

'Fun' menu

"My husband and I have a fishing boat of Anglesey, so every weekend we go fishing up there," said Mrs Hinton.

Mrs Hinton, who was brought up on the island, stocks up on local produce when back home at weekends.

She said: "So we were catching lobster and I said wouldn't it be nice if the kids could taste what we taste every weekend."

Canteen manager Mandy Furness said: "We try to aim for the things the children enjoy. We try to keep the menu fun and interesting."

Mrs Hinton is already planning the next delicacy for pupils - venison.
