Man dies in city street shooting
A 19-year-old man has been shot dead in a street in Birmingham.

The victim, who has not been named but is local, was killed in Melbourne Avenue in Newtown on Monday evening.

A number of nearby streets have been sealed off by police for forensic examinations, and house-to-house enquiries will be carried out later.

Supt Tom Coughlan, who is leading the inquiry, appealed for anyone who was in the area at the time of the shooting to contact West Midlands Police.

He said: "This is a tragic loss of a young man's life. We will be working to establish the facts and reasons behind this shooting as soon as possible.

"It is too early to speculate on the motives and reasons behind the incident."
