A man has been jailed for life for bludgeoning his estranged wife to death at a university campus in Birmingham.

Anurag Johri, from Aston, beat Deepti Anurag to death with a baseball bat after tricking his way into the University of Central England.

The 29-year-old's body was found at the Perry Barr campus on 18 November 2005.

Her 34-year-old husband was found guilty of her murder at Birmingham Crown Court on Thursday. Johri was told he will serve a minimum of 13 years.

Det Insp Derek Quinn, of West Midlands Police, said: "Deepti Anurag was a vibrant and intelligent woman from India who arrived with her husband Anurag Johri in the UK in 2003.

"When this relationship deteriorated however, Johri murdered her by bludgeoning her to death.

"Yesterday's conviction and today's sentence is a victory for justice.

"I would like to personally thank staff at UCE for their support who helped their colleagues at West Midlands Police."
