Pensioner beaten in his own home
A couple were robbed and the man beaten by thieves who broke into their home during the night.

The victims were woken and threatened by two masked men who got into their house in Harden Road, Leamore, Walsall, during the early hours of Thursday.

The 72-year-old man was struck about the face and body with a cosh. He and his wife, 68, handed over cash, jewellery and personal items.

Detectives called it a callous and vicious assault.

Det Sgt Andy Sheldon of West Midlands Police said the couple were left shaken. The man was not seriously injured but suffered marks and bruising.
