Seaside smell comes to the trams
Phil Bateman and Metro air freshener
Phil Bateman freshens up a tram with a whiff of the seaside
Passengers on trams in the landlocked West Midlands are being transported to the seaside - thanks to air fresheners.

Midland Metro is using the devices to pump out the aroma of the sea on its Birmingham to Black Country services.

The idea is to freshen up the trams, even though the smell may seem alien to an area some 80 miles from the coast.

Metro's Phil Bateman said: "The idea is to give you a reminder of your last summer holiday and hopefully give passengers a bit of a lift."

The trams run from Birmingham to Wolverhampton through Wednesbury, west Bromwich and Bilston, where the only stretch of water is the local canal network.
