The junior sportswoman award went to Rachel Atherton, from Shropshire, who became the first British mountain bike rider to win a Downhill World Championship at the age of 17.

Aston Villa player and Northern Ireland international Steven Davis was named as Footballer of the Year.

Coventry Blaze, who won ice hockey's Elite League, Challenge Cup and League Play-off this season, took the Team of the Year award.

Giles and Bell, who helped England triumph over Australia in last summer's historic Ashes series, secured the world beaters' honour for their contribution on the global stage.

Viewers and listeners voted for the sports personality, while the other awards were chosen by a panel of judges.
