The mother of a man who died after being stabbed in Birmingham as he made a phone call has appealed for help in finding her son's killer.

Donovan Anthony Vincent Gayle, 25, was knifed on 11 April by his attacker, who had pulled up in a car next to the kiosk on Heathfield Road, Lozells.

Dorothy Gayle said she was "shocked and horrified" by the attack and pleaded with people to come forward.

The victim from Birmingham collapsed in nearby Finch Road and died in hospital.

Mrs Gayle said at a press conference in Birmingham that her son was missed by friends and family, especially by his sister Kyanne, aged six.

"All Donovan's friends and family are missing him. Each time there is a knock on the door we expect him to be there," she said.

"We are shocked and horrified by what has happened.

"On behalf of all Donovan's friends and family, please come forward and speak to the police with any information you may have."

'Cane row' hairstyle

Detectives have described Mr Gayle's attacker as black, aged about 30-years-old, 5ft 5ins tall, with a medium build and he was wearing dark clothing.

He had a 'cane row' hairstyle which was a few inches long at the back.

Police also want to trace a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat in the car, which drove off in the direction of Villa Road.

She is described as black, aged in her 30s, with a slim build, and wavy dark hair, which was tied up in what police describe as a "bunch".

A post-mortem examination concluded Mr Gayle died as a result of stab wounds.
