'Cane row' hairstyle
Detectives have described Mr Gayle's attacker as black, aged about 30-years-old, 5ft 5ins tall, with a medium build and he was wearing dark clothing.
He had a 'cane row' hairstyle which was a few inches long at the back.
Police also want to trace a woman who was sitting in the passenger seat in the car, which drove off in the direction of Villa Road.
She is described as black, aged in her 30s, with a slim build, and wavy dark hair, which was tied up in what police describe as a "bunch".
A post-mortem examination concluded Mr Gayle died as a result of stab wounds.
