Five men are being held on suspicion of murder

Police have been given more time to question five men arrested over the murder of a 23-year-old man during riots in Birmingham.

Two men, aged 24 and 23, were arrested on Friday over the death of Isiah Young-Sam, who was stabbed in Carlyle Road, Lozells, on 22 November.

Three other suspects - two aged 22 and one 25 - were already being questioned.

The rioting in the Lozells area of the city involved youths from the black and Asian communities.

Police said the men were being held "on suspicion of murder and serious assault".

A police spokeswoman said on Monday: "The five men remain in police custody this morning. All were given warrants of further detention."

Detectives have disclosed that up to 12 men were involved in the death and further arrests are expected.

The clashes are said to have been sparked by an unsubstantiated rumour that a 14-year-old girl was raped.
