Drink-driving petition handed in
Jamie Mason
Jamie suffered internal injuries in the crash in January
The family of a boy who died when he was hit by a drink-driver take their campaign for tougher penalties to Home Secretary Charles Clarke on Monday.

Aaron Chisango, 27, from Telford, Shropshire, was one-and-a-half times over the drink-drive limit when he hit 12-year-old Jamie Mason on 8 January.

He was jailed for two months at Wolverhampton Magistrates' Court.

Jamie's parents, Hayley and Steve Leighton, from Wednesfield, are to hand over the 10,000-signature petition.

A charge against Chisango of causing death by careless driving was dropped because of a lack of evidence, but he admitted driving without a licence or insurance.

The court also heard the 27-year-old was fighting attempts to deport him to his native Zambia after his visa ran out in October last year.
