A love poem written by a Wolverhampton academic has come top in an international competition judged by Andrew Motion.
Joan Michelson's Amen won first prize in the Londonart Art of Love competition, which invited works from writers, artists and performers.
Around 1,500 entries were judged by the Poet Laureate.
Ms Michelson said: "I was very pleased and surprised to win, particularly when there was such strong competition."
Now a senior honorary research fellow, Ms Michelson taught English at the University for more than 20 years and was head of creative writing.
A selection of her humorous fiction is being compiled for publication by Tindal Street Press.
