Benjamim Zephaniah: Rejected OBE
|
Birmingham-born poet Benjamim Zephaniah has been recognised for his literary skills with an honorary doctorate.
He received his accolade on Tuesday during the University of Central England awards ceremony.
The poet turned down an OBE from the Queen in 2003, saying it stood for colonial brutality and slavery.
Born in Handsworth, he left school at 15 and has published several books aimed at both adult and youth audiences. He is also a musician.
