Police say it is too early to say whether a melee in Birmingham involving 30-40 people, which resulted in a man being shot to death, was gang-related.
A 29-year-old man died and another is in a serious but stable condition after a number of shots were fired at a barber's shop in Birmingham.
The incident happened in and around the salon in Lozells Road in Newtown on Saturday afternoon.
One man died on Sunday and a 24-year-old man remains in hospital.
Superintendent Thomas Coughlan, of West Midlands Police, said it appeared a youth ran into the salon. Others followed and a number of vehicles were also involved.
He said it was obvious that some rivalry had gone on.
There had been a significant reduction in gun crime in the area in the past 12 months, he said, and he appealed for witnesses to contact the police.
At the time of the incident the traffic in Lozells Road was busy with many people travelling to Villa Park for the Aston Villa premiership game, he said.
Many of them may have seen the large group of youths near to the junction with Wheeler Street, particularly surrounding a silver Peugeot 206 motor, the officer said.
Extensive house-to-house inquiries would continue in the area for some days, he added.
