DJ's widow confronted by burglars
Deepika Makwana
Mrs Makwana came face-to-face with one of the burglars
The widow of a radio presenter who died after confronting burglars at his home told a court of the moment she came face-to-face with one of them.

Heart FM DJ Tushar Makwana, 37, and his wife Deepika were woken by a loud bang at their home in Wasperton Way, Castle Bromwich on 9 February.

Mrs Makwana told Leicester Crown Court she went to the top of the stairs and saw two men dressed in black.

Her husband died of head injuries after chasing the intruders' getaway car.

Intruders fled

The court had previously been told the intruders had kicked down the door of the couple's home to steal the keys to a BMW car.

Mrs Makwana told the court she could see the men were young, white males.

One of them picked up a coat stand and started to jab the mother-of-three.

"He was in the hallway. He was looking at me. I said 'get out of my house'."

The court heard how the two intruders fled when Mr Makwana ran down the stairs after them.

The jury had heard that the radio DJ had suffered head injuries after trying to chase the burglars who sped off in a Citroen C5.

Four teenagers Brett Frewin, 17, Matthew Jeffrey, 17, Michael McGuire and Ashley Cooksey both aged 18 all deny the manslaughter of the radio presenter.

The trial continues.
