A man has died and two others were injured during a shooting at a Birmingham nightclub.

The incident happened at the Premonition nightclub in Bristol Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.

A 24-year-old man was taken to hospital but died from his injuries. Two others remain in hospital.

A team of police officers and forensic scientists are at the scene of the crime but say investigations are at an early stage.

Turned away

Police have not revealed the identity of the man who died and are appealing for anyone with any information about the incident, which happened about 0340 GMT, to contact Steelhouse Lane police station.

Jeff Wardle, who works at the nearby Radius Bar, said he turned five men away from his pub minutes before the shooting.

He told the BBC: "Five guys turned up and we turned them away because they were wearing tracksuits.

"They said they would go somewhere else and walked towards Premonition and that was when we heard shooting."

He added: "Everywhere you go there is trouble now and it's getting worse. I was threatened two weeks ago because I would not serve someone.

"I do feel scared about what's happening."
