Detainee's father gets UK backing
The father of a man detained by the US at Guantanamo will be supported in a bid to visit him by the UK Government.

Foreign Office officials have confirmed they would back Azmat Begg in his application to see Moazzam, accompanied by a psychiatrist and doctor.

The detainee, from Sparkhill, Birmingham, was arrested in Pakistan and has been held in isolation at the military base since January 2002.

He is due to face military trial at some stage.

Foreign Office minister Baroness Symons pledged her support to the visit during a recent meeting with Mr Begg and campaigners.

An official spokesman said: "The family wanted support for their application to send medical personnel and Mr Begg to Guantanamo.

"I can confirm that Baroness Symons did undertake to support this."
