A Birmingham man who killed two policemen in a drunken, high-speed chase has been granted leave to appeal.
Leayon Davi Dudley was found guilty of murdering one police officer and unlawfully killing another by ramming their car during a high-speed pursuit.
The 40-year-old hit Leicestershire police officers Bryan Moore and Andrew Munn's stationary car at 80mph.
Three appeal court judges in London have now granted Dudley leave to appeal against his sentence.
Inadmissible evidence
He was sentenced to life for murder and 15 years for unlawful killing, to run concurrently, in May 2003.
Dudley, from Oakhurst Road, Acocks Green, became involved in a police chase in August 2002 after he failed to stop for officers in Shirley, near Solihull.
He drove up the M42 towards Nottingham and onto the A42 where his van hit PC Munn and PC Moore's car.
Dudley claimed he had been trying to overtake on the nearside and had hit the police car accidentally.
He was granted leave to appeal on the grounds of evidence ruled as inadmissible by the original trial judge.
The evidence was a view expressed about the crash by a police accident investigator about how visible the two officers were at the time of the collision.
No date has been set for the full hearing of Dudley's appeal.
