The Midlands has been named as the nation's pie-eating capital by a new survey into the traditional feast.

However nationally 16% of respondents admitting to feasting three or more times a week.

The latest revelations were uncovered by supermarket chain Kwik Save.

Its survey of 1,282 people in Britain found that chicken and mushroom was the nation's favourite filling.

More than half of those questioned preferred their pies to be served with potatoes and vegetables, although men chose chips and for women it was mashed potatoes.

Kwik Save marketing director Gill McComas said: "Over the last 20 years we've seen many different international influences being absorbed into our everyday cooking.

"But, it's fantastic to see that the great British pie is holding its own and standing firm as a national favourite at meal times."
