Club shooting victim named

Police think the shooting followed an argument between two men
Detectives believe the motive for a killing at an unlicensed club could be "as simple" as one reveller pushing into another.

The 32-year-old victim who was shot dead has been named by West Midlands Police as George Oscar Terralounge.

He died from a single wound to the stomach after being gunned down outside the Plazza Cafe in Birmingham.

Police were called by ambulance workers to the club on Lozells Road at 0546 GMT on Saturday.

Motorist abducted

Mr Terralounge, from the Handsworth area, was taken to the City Hospital with a wound to the stomach, but was declared dead shortly before 0645 GMT.

A similar murder took place outside the same venue in November 1998 when 20-year-old Daniel Brown was shot dead after he trod on someone's foot.

West Midlands Police say the Plazza has been opening illegally
Last month a 19-year-old motorist was abducted and beaten up by two men who drove him around the city in his own car after he had dropped two friends outside the venue.

The Plazza was trading without a licence and police have been trying to have it closed down.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Hough said: "We are working on the basis at the moment that this might be an incident that occurred purely at the Plazza in the early hours of the 27th and it may be that it could be as simple as somebody's pushed into somebody else.

"An argument has ensued, a gun has been produced and a single shot fired."

'Heard screaming'

A police spokesman confirmed the club had breached an injunction issued on 11 December to stop it trading.

He said officers and council officials would now take action to enforce the order and make sure the venue did not open again.

One woman who was in the area at the time of the shooting said she heard a commotion.

"I just heard screaming - young girls - at about 0530 GMT.

"Then I looked through the window, but I couldn't see anybody.

"I saw a few cars and that was about it."
