Murder police seek teenagers

Police believe three teenagers may have vital information in the hunt for the killer of a pub landlord.

Father-of-five Michael Hughes, 59, was discovered by cleaners on the floor of his bedroom in the upstairs living quarters of the Royal Oak, Pelsall, on Sunday.

Detectives said the property had been broken into, several rooms searched and a safe, which may have contained a small amount of cash, forcibly removed.

Police are keen to trace two girls and one boy who they believe happened to be in the area at 0130 BST on Sunday, saw lights on in the pub and went inside to buy cigarettes and crisps.

The male is described as 17 or 18 years old, 6ft 4ins to 6ft 5ins, white, chunky, with short blond hair and wearing light clothing.

Reports of possible sightings

The girls are described as white, thin and aged 18.

One had blond shoulder-length hair which was tied back and was wearing a waist-length jacket and blue jeans.

The other girl had long sandy-brown hair which was parted in the middle, she had brown eyes, running mascara, and was wearing a knee-length suede jacket with fur-lining that was brown or dirty white.

Police urged the teenagers, who were only in the pub for a few minutes, to come forward, as they may have information that could help with the investigation.

Underwater searches of the nearby canal are due to resume on Friday and police said they were following up reports of possible sightings of the cream-coloured van seen parked in the pub car park at 0700 BST on Sunday morning.
