No more dripping gravy thanks to student Jane Aukim

A pie holder to prevent football fans burning
their fingers while enjoying the traditional half-time snack has been invented by a design student.
Jane Aukim devised the container after watching a fan
drip gravy on a young supporter's head as he struggled to handle a piping hot
pie.
The 19-year-old, who is in the final year of a Consumer Product Design course
at Coventry University, hopes to patent the device and market it to clubs.
Jane, a Wolves fan from Stafford, experimented with different
sizes of pie before opting for a circular-shaped container complete with a dome
lid and a small hole so the pastry and filling can be nibbled at.
"I was at a Wolves game and saw this man drip gravy on a little girl's head
because he was struggling to hold it due to the heat," Jane said.
"That's when I thought that some kind of container could stop that.
"There's also the risk of you dropping your pie because you get jostled on
the way back to the stand, but my container would keep it all together."
Jane has also designed a collapsible sandwich box which folds to A5 size and a
coffee and doughnut holder.
They are on display as part of the university's exhibition of work by young artists and designers which runs until 19 June.
