A jobless gambler is celebrating after scooping nearly £300,000 from a £1 stake on a hand of poker.
Evadne Gayle won a £290,684.52 jackpot after being dealt a royal flush at Birmingham's Grosvenor Casino.
The 50-year-old came up trumps on the Super Stud Poker game, which links all the other Grosvenor Casinos across the UK to generate an ever-increasing jackpot.
Ms Gayle, from Edgbaston, who was recently made redundant from a day care centre, defied odds of about 600,000 to one to land the huge prize.
Loud screams
She said: "The dealer gave me my five cards - four cards were on show - but it wasn't until the dealer turned the last
card that I realised I had a winning hand.
"It was like a dream, I had to pinch myself. It took ages to sink in that I'd actually won."
Adrian Frost, general manager of the Grosvenor Casino in Broad Street, Birmingham, said: "It was great, we could all see a potential royal flush coming up.
"When the last card was turned over the dealer and the other two players at the table were screaming louder than Evadne, who seemed to be trying to take it all in."
