Council plans to save almost £60m

Plans to save almost £60m over three years are to be announced by Durham County Council.

The treasury report proposals, to be considered by councillors on Wednesday, highlight inflationary pressure and reductions in government funding.

Savings of £11.9m will need to be made in 2010/11, £23m in 2011/12 and £23.5m the following year.

The council said the plans are at an early stage and do not yet identify specific savings.
