Rusty tank shell found in garden

Army bomb disposal experts have detonated an unexploded tank shell found in the front garden of a house in a County Durham village.

Council workmen discovered the 105mm round lying in long grass in Barnard Avenue, Ludworth, on Thursday morning.

Police said the "rusty shell" was taken to nearby farmland in the village, where it was blown up by the army team.

A Durham Police spokesman said no-one was injured and no damage was caused in the controlled explosion.
