Patrols stepped up after shooting

A man is in hospital after being shot in the back at his home in Sunderland.

The 44-year-old, who has not been named, was taken to the city's Royal Hospital after the shooting at The Fold on Sunday night.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said the man was in a serious condition, but that his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

She said patrols in the area were being stepped up and that the victim may have been targeted.
