One of the last remaining Vulcan bombers has been lined up as a star attraction of the 21st Sunderland International Airshow.

The event, which takes place on 25 and 26 July, regularly attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors to the city.

Last year's event was hit by bad weather, which resulted in some displays being abandoned.

Also due to take part this year are the Red Arrows and RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.

An Apache helicopter will also make its first appearance as part of The Blue Eagles display team, and the Swift Glider team will make their debut.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which has appeared at all previous Sunderland shows, will be making a traditional flypast with the Spitfire, Hurricane, Dakota.

A Sunderland City Council spokesman said: "This is the 21st year of the airshow and we are delighted to have attracted some new aircraft which will join established crowd favourites."

The airshow is worth about £12m to Sunderland's economy.
