A new team of experts is being set up in an attempt to speed up the development of the former Vaux Brewery site in Sunderland.

The 15-acre city centre site has been empty for 10 years since the brewery closed.

Councillors are expected to approve a formal agreement with representatives from the public sector later.

These include regional development agency one NorthEast and urban regeneration agency Sunderland arc.

Colin Clark, Sunderland Council's head of land and property, described the move as part of an ongoing process.

He said: "This is a formal step, which sets out in some detail what each of us are going to do over the next year or so.

"It will signal to the private sector that the public sector partners are united in the way that we want to take forward the development of the site."
