Park and ride scheme goes green

Durham park and ride bus
Bus passengers will not notice any difference

The park and ride scheme in Durham is to become cleaner and greener, councillors have announced.

From early January, the buses will trial new technology aimed at reducing fuel consumption and carbon emissions, as well as making them quieter.

The county council is supporting the Advanced Thermal Management System fuel efficiency project, developed by Comesys Europe Ltd of Cramlington.

Passengers will not notice any difference to the buses' performance.

Graeme Torrence, owner of Scarlet Band, which operates the buses for the council, said: "It's essential these days to explore new technologies that reduce the environmental impact of our services.

"The trial will allow us to assess fully the very real environmental and cost benefits that can be gained from using such innovative systems."
