Bravery award girl meets prince

A four-year-old girl from South Tyneside has received a national bravery award from Prince Harry.

Lily Slater, of Boldon Colliery, is being treated with chemotherapy for a malignant brain tumour.

She won the WellChild charity award for her bravery in coping with the treatment and was presented with the award by Prince Harry in London.

Her mother prepared Lily for the event on Monday by taking her to Madam Tussauds to see Prince Harry's waxwork.

Shirley Slater said: "He sat and chatted and asked how we were coping and what had gone on in the last year.

"He was just how I imagined him to be, she sat on his knee, he was lovely.

"I took her to Madam Tussauds, just so she knew what he looked like and that he didn't wear a crown and she wasn't disappointed on the night."

The youngster has also undergone radiotherapy as part of her treatment.
