Arrest after robbery at gunpoint

A teenage boy has been arrested following an armed raid in which a couple was beaten and robbed.

Two masked raiders, armed with a gun and a knife, forced their way into the couple's house in Southfields, Stanley, County Durham, on 30 September.

The husband and wife, in their mid-40s, were threatened and punched before handing over an amount of cash.

A 16-year-old was arrested at a house in Hamsterley Colliery on Wednesday. He was later released on bail.

Officers have renewed an appeal for anyone with information to contact them.
