Micra convoy celebrates 25 years

Special Micra
More than two million Micras have been built in Sunderland

A convoy of 25 Sunderland-built Nissan Micras are making a 300-mile (482.8km) journey to mark the vehicle's first quarter of a century in production.

The motorcade left the Wearside plant on Monday for the journey to London's British International Motor Show.

The fleet of specially-decorated Micras was due to arrive at the ExCeL exhibition centre at about 1600 BST.

More than two million Micras have rolled of the production line at Nissan's Sunderland factory since 1992.

During the motor show, which opens to the public on Wednesday, a special version of Micra will make its UK debut.

Since the Micra first went into production, it has undergone two transformations, leading to the current version which was launched in 2002.
