Six injured in police car crash

Six people were hurt when a marked police car collided with a taxi in Sunderland.

Two officers in the police Volvo were responding to an assault call when the vehicle collided with a Citroen Xsara taxi on Corporation Road on Sunday.

The taxi driver and three passengers were taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital suffering from minor injuries.

The officers in the police car were also slightly injured. An investigation is under way.
