Women charged over cannabis farms

Two women have been charged with drug offences after almost 700 cannabis plants were seized from two houses.

Acting on a tip-off officers raided the first in Anfield Terrace, Catchgate, County Durham and found 320 plants in most rooms of the three-bedroom home.

They later searched another house in North Thorne, Shield Row, on Saturday and found a further 365 plants.

Two women, aged 28 and 22, were later charged with the cultivation of cannabis and will appear in court.

Durham Police said they were due to appear before Consett Magistrates' Court on Monday.
