Man is charged over fatal assault

A man has been charged with killing a teenager in Sunderland city centre.

Ryan Hyden, 19, was assaulted near Idols bar, High Street West, in the early hours of Monday.

He was initially taken to Sunderland Royal Hospital for treatment and transferred to Newcastle General, where he later died.

Joseph Dixon, 20, of Portchester Road, Pennywell, Sunderland, is due before the city's magistrates' court on Friday charged with manslaughter.
