Development could create 450 jobs
Plans to rejuvenate one of the major gateways into Sunderland city centre creating 450 jobs have been submitted.

A three-star hotel, offices, 124 apartments and retail space are planned for Farringdon Row on the western approach to the city.

The scheme, led by regeneration company Sunderland arc, will be the first of a three phase £130m development.

The scheme aims to provide quality housing, shop space, public spaces and improve the landscape.

The plans also aim to revive the Galleys Gill park area linking to the neighbouring Vaux site.

If permission is granted for the first phase of the scheme, developers CTP Ltd aim to start work on site by the beginning of next year.

Bryan Sanderson, chairman of Sunderland arc, said: "This new development is just the beginning of ambitious plans, which will inject new vibrancy and wealth into this area of the city."
