Woman injured as car catches fire
A woman is critically ill in hospital after appearing to walk away unscathed from a burning car after a crash.

The accident happened on Moorsley Road, Houghton, on Tuesday when police said a Peugeot 306 lost control and collided with a Renault Clio.

Both cars caught fire and the drivers and passengers managed to get out, appearing uninjured.

But the Clio passenger, a 45-year-old woman from Hetton-le-Hole, was later found to have severe internal injuries.

She is in intensive care in Durham University Hospital.
