Cash stolen during bank robbery
A substantial amount of cash has been stolen during a robbery at a bank in County Durham.

It took place at the Bradford and Bingley Bank on Front Street in Stanley on Monday morning.

Two men, one of whom is thought to have been armed with a firearm, entered the bank and demanded cash. They both wore crash helmets with the visors down.

The men took an undisclosed amount of cash before escaping on a motorcycle. No shots were fired in the incident.

Several members of staff and two customers were present at the time, but no-one was hurt.

The bank remains closed while investigations continue.

Police are asking any witnesses, especially those who may have seen the raiders fleeing the scene, to contact them.
